Get Set For Novel Success with Josephine Moon

Event description

Get set for success by making key choices and planning decisions in the early stages of writing your novel.

Just like a Roxette song, you can get set for success by making some key choices and planning decisions in the early stages of writing your novel. Novels are a lot like houses – they’re filled with foundations, internal structure, wiring and architectural plans. But, just like houses, novels built on shaky ground eventually crack and crumble.

Don’t let your house fall down. In this workshop, you’ll identify the choices you need to make when setting up your novel to ensure your commercial fiction is strong, impressive and stands the test of time. Come prepared to work, collaborate and share.

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, you will:

  • Understand the difference between plot and structure.
  • Identify what you need to do in the beginning of your book.
  • Learn how to plan your way through ‘the saggy middle’ (so that it’s not saggy).
  • Brainstorm a story arc and satisfying conclusion.
  • Learn how to write a logline.

      Format

This is an in-person workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held at State Library of Queensland. This workshop is designed with a focus on beginner and emerging writers but is suitable for writers of all levels and backgrounds.
