Getting solar right: Choosing the right system for your home
Event description
Every home has slightly different requirements for a rooftop
solar array, and every lifestyle has different energy usage
that will impact which system will suit best. In this session,
we’ll explain how to navigate the installation of solar on
your home, and detail which setup is right for you. In the
second half of this session we’ll open up a panel discussion
and Q&A session with our experts.
Please note that this session will start at 6:30pm (AEDT) and end between 8 - 8:30pm (AEDT), depending on audience questions. The session will be recorded and sent out to registered participants.Â
SpeakersÂ
Gavin Gilchrist
Gavin is the project manager and founder of Inner West Community Energy Inc (IWCE), a group he set up four years ago to help promote renewable energy in Sydney's Inner West, which has an environmentally aware community but a very low uptake of rooftop solar. In that time, he's managed more than 250 residential PV systems in the Inner West and a few places beyond, dealing with five different solar installers.Â
Prior to setting up IWCE, Gavin ran his own energy efficiency company, Big Switch Projects, for 15 years until 2015, providing energy efficiency advice and NABERS ratings to the owners and managers of large commercial buildings and offices. He was one of the founding program managers for the NSW Sustainable Energy Development Authority, being responsible for the design and launch of the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating Scheme, the predecessor to NABERS. His book The Big Switch: Clean Energy for the 21st Century, was released in 1994.
Bobbi McKibbin
Bobbi has been in and around the solar industry since 2006, cutting her teeth in energy efficiency, after all the cheapest power is the power you don’t use.  In 2007 she started working for a local solar company where she found her passion.  In 2009 she became part owner in Anything Solar in Wodonga. Bobbi loves being able to assist people with reducing their energy usage be it through energy efficiency or solar power and hot water recommendations. Bobbi is also a founding volunteer member for local community energy group Renewable Albury Wodonga Energy, a local organization currently exploring medium sized solar farm installations. She also actively assists other community energy organisations from around Australia.  Bobbi is also a great advocate for the renewable energy sector and as a result has held a volunteer position on the Clean Energy Council’s Installer Reference Group and also the Victorian Governments Solar Victoria Industry and Consumer Reference Group.
In 2019 Bobbi was award the SolarCutter of the year award.  This award is an industry peer award and was awarded based on Bobbi’s above and beyond approach and lobbying the Victorian Government in a state of crisis as the Victorian solar industry ground to a halt when the government put its rebate program on hold for 3 months. Bobbi is also a founding member of Australian Women in Solar Energy.
