    Event description

Ghosts of King Street - winter apparitions

    27.7.24 Petersham Bowling Club

It’s cold. Why not have some spirits help you warm up. This musical performance piece features a set of songs from the micro environment of Sydney’s inner city during the mid 1980s.   The show is part song list, part re-memoir and part improv.  The songs are mainly a collection of Greg Appel’s works from that time.  Some of them from The Lighthouse Keepers.  A band that's music lingers on…spookily. The Eighties were a long time ago - yet today’s inner west is full of young people who look similar and even play similar music.  They could almost be extras in a re-enactment of this era. The main difference being the cost of living. A band in the Eighties could exist on social security and free beer.  Today an eclectic cast has come together to help you wallow in the past or perhaps explore some local history. The loose story is based around a common delusion amongst older musicians - maybe I could still do it?  It’s a show that develops right in front of you - surprising the cast themselves at times.   There’s also a Guthugga Pipeline Press publication about the moon to be launched.   We’ve made our tickets cheap.   Because we want you to enjoy the show and feel the value.  It’s Christmas in July after all.
