    Event description

The Ghostly Circus lives again for its latest otherworldly production,“Black Box Paradox” on August 10 & 11th, 2024, featuring manipulations never quite seen before. Celebrating its tenth year, the Ghostly Circus will debut this effervescent show at a new historic location, FringeArt, Philadelphia’s home for contemporary performance, presenting progressive, world-class art that expands the imagination and boldly defies expectations.

The Ghostly Circus is site-specific theatrical platform for artists to build their acts encompassing the spirits of historic landmarks as a stage. This unique, other-worldly show features a variety of talents including contemporary circus & flow arts, sideshow, dance, theatrics, and a bit of magic.

Black Box Paradox prompts us to think about the possible near future when most analytics will be outsourced to fully-automated semi-intelligent systems with their decision-making logic being mostly opaque to us. Looking at this decade old question from InternetSociety.org, here is the paradox: how can you trust the generated secrets if you can’t tell how the box was made? This has us extending the question: what are we actually looking at?

Since its inception, Ghostly Circus has captivated audiences with its talented performers, quirky stories, unique costume creations, and immersive design curation. As a nonprofit initiative under Ghostly Circus CultureTrust of Greater Philadelphia since 2021, the project continues to push boundaries and redefine theatrical experiences.

Don't miss your chance to experience "Black Box Paradox" at FringeArts. This adaptable theater space is an intimate venue, so only a limited amount of tickets are available. Book your tickets now for an unforgettable evening!
