Sam Gill / Niki Johnson / Clayton Thomas / Hayley Chan
Sam Gill - saxophones
Niki Johnson - vibraphone
Clayton Thomas - double bass

The quartet of Gill/Johnson/Thomas/Chan formed in 2024 as the ensemble for a theatre work created by Michelle St Anne for Living Room Theatre.
They now return for their first outing as a gigging band, drawing on a wealth of creative connections within the band spanning ensembles including Lush and Sound the Alarm.
The quartet will present a set of rich improvised music, combining elements of minimalism, sonic exploration and high-energy improvisation.
Jim Denley & David Turner
Jim Denley – winds
David Turner – guitar
The Bourges born, French philosopher Vladimir Jankélévitch claims that music can't be pinned down and has a capacity to engender limitless resonance in several domains. Hence, he argues music is ineffable. While it may be ultimately pointless using words to describe the phenomenal worldings that musicking births, Jim and David try; they talk about musicking all the time. They are often amazed by how much they can agree upon.
Meeting regularly the last few years to play with the improvising orchestra Splinter, Jim and David play most Sundays, and before and after the musicking they talk about the playing, about improvisation, tones, recordings, amplification, acoustics, the sociality of the orchestra, the Sydney scene, performance and performances. This wordy discourse is kinda inseparable from the playing. Occasionally they have had little moments within Splinter that hint at the possibilities of a duo, although this will be their first performance as such. They hope that the rich discourse and friendship they have been involved in the last few years will be evident in the musicking.
