Ginger's Lesbian Pop-ups - Auckland
Event description
Tāmaki Makaurau, its been a while, so we’re back for one night only!
We’re starting strong with a panel on leadership, advocacy, and showing up for your community - with some seriously impressive guests (bios below). Then it’s straight into the GRIP PIT: Arm Wrestling Regionals, hosted by Alice Soper – former rugby player, Women in Sport advocate, podcaster, and all-round weapon. She’s coming up from Pōneke to run the mayhem. If you were at Bush Camp, you know. If not, just picture tops being tested, friendships made under pressure (that’s what she said), and a lot of yelling.
After that, DJ Ayesha takes us into the night. From Glastonbury to Ginger’s, she’s a deadset legend behind the decks and will keep the floor full 'til close.
Ma Vá Pizza are on the pizza pies for purchase all night long (GF and vegan available) and the bar’s full of rainbow-friendly drinks (we have plenty of fab zero options too)
Convo Corner will be set up for those wanting to make new mates.
and the Love Letter Wall will be exhibited showing messages from other Ginger's whanau across the motu.
Ginger’s is a Not for Profit event series that celebrates lesbian and sapphic culture. It is for anyone who feels like it’s for them. We do our best to make solo guests feel welcome, and if you'd like us to connect you with other solo attendees pre-event, just send us a DM. We centre our rainbow community in everything we do. Allies are welcome too, as long as you’re turning up with aroha and rainbow guests.
The Panel
Honary Ally - Marama Davidson - Green Party Co-Leader & Unapologetic Māori mama. Staunch mana wahine. Marama’s stood on the frontlines for years, pushing for justice and holding space for takatāpui and rainbow whānau in Parliament and beyond. Her aroha runs deep, and we’re so proud to have her join us as our Honorary Ally.
Lana Searle – More FM Host & National Treasure
Lana’s the voice of More FM Breakfast nationally, and a familiar face from Celebrity Treasure Island. She’s just back from South Korea after interviewing Tom Cruise (casual), and recently appeared in Free to Lead and Beyond the Keyboard alongside Cassie, speaking about online hate towards women, and how to help empower, inspire and lift the voices of women and girls across Aotearoa.
Sophie Parker – Fitness Coach & Inclusion Advocate
Sophie lives right where fitness meets feminism. She’s a senior adviser in workplace inclusion, chairs her organisation’s rainbow network, and sits on the board of the Cross Agency Rainbow Network. Off the clock, she’s a proud “walking lesbian stereotype” making waves online and in real life - lifting people up (literally – that’s what she said) and opening doors for others to do the same. She’s a fierce advocate for women and LGBTQIA+ folks in fitness spaces where representation still seriously lags behind.
Cassie Roma – MC, Ginger’s Podcast Host, Bush Camp Camp Mum
Megaphone in one hand, metaphor in the other - Cassie’s the storytelling powerhouse behind so many Ginger’s moments. She’s our poddy host, former Head of Marketing at Air NZ, The Warehouse Group, and ANZ, and was a judge on The Apprentice. She’s also a past co-chair of Auckland Pride and lifelong advocate for inclusive leadership.
Final panel speaker TBC.
