2026 Observatory Night

2026 Boys and Girls in STEM – Special Evening at the Ballarat Observatory

Students participating in the 2026 Boys and Girls in STEM programs are invited to a special optional evening event exploring the wonders of the night sky.

This is a unique opportunity to discover astronomy in action, meet experts in the field, and experience the historic Ballarat Observatory.

During the evening, students will:

• Meet experts from the Victorian Space Science Education Centre

• Learn about the latest space research happening at Swinburne University in Melbourne

• Discover what astronomers and astrophysicists really do in their careers

• Explore the historic telescopes of the Ballarat Observatory

• Weather permitting, observe the night sky through telescopes

Tech School staff will be present throughout the event to support and supervise students.

To keep everyone warm while stargazing, warm Milo and biscuits will be provided for supper.

Finish Time: 9:00pm

Students will need to make their own way to and from the Observatory.

There is no cost for the event.
