GIS for Beginners workshop
Event description
This professional development session is specifically designed for ‘beginners’ who want to learn about GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and develop their teacher 'toolkit'. The session would be suited for new geography teachers or those who want to broaden their understanding of GIS in the classroom. We will cover the basics of GIS and its practical applications in teaching Geography, including its relevance to the 7-10 Australian Curriculum and Senior Geography subjects. Participants will learn how to use GIS software to visualize and manipulate spatial data, and we will focus on how to integrate GIS tools into Geography lessons and assessments to enhance student learning. Participants are encouraged to bring a device to the session in order to interact with some of the tools being explored. By the end of the session, teachers will have an understanding of how GIS and technology can be used to effectively teach Geography and promote engagement in the subject.
