Description

Ever wondered what it's like to play rugby?

Keep Learning has partnered with Mid Canterbury Rugby to organise a friendly, welcoming event which is the perfect opportunity to give it a go.

This free session is open to all adults aged 16+, regardless of gender or experience - please register so we know numbers.

It is a one-off 90-minute session that is all about having fun, building confidence, and learning some of the basics in a relaxed environment. You'll have a chance to practise skills such as running, evasion, catching, passing, throwing, finding space, and understanding simple offside rules. Then we'll put it all together in a fun game of non-contact T1 or touch rugby.

Whether you're completely new to the game, returning after a long break, or simply keen to try something different, you'll be supported every step of the way.

Come along, meet new people, get active, and discover why rugby is one of New Zealand's favourite team sports!

Note: For those who really enjoy this session and want to keep playing and build up skills, there's the opportunity to join a four-week beginner programme starting two weeks later.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, this is one of five community events inspired by the Five Ways to Wellbeing. This session celebrates Be Active—showing how trying something new, moving your body, and sharing an experience with others can be great for both your physical and mental wellbeing.
