Event description

STEM Central and BOP Industries are proud to present the 'Gladstone Future Cities Challenge' for 2021! The ‘Gladstone Future Cities Challenge’ aims to get students looking at our next 30 years as they design what they hope to see in Gladstone in the year 2050. Focussing on the opportunities in sustainability, technology, and community, students will be working to develop and pitch an initiative that they think could change Gladstone for the better by 2050.

Over the past 30 years our cities have changed dramatically. With an increase in technology access, air travel, diversity, and global connectivity, our cities have continued to grow and evolve with us over the past 30 years.

As our cities have grown and developed over the past 30 years we have seen the ways we live, work, and play change as well. We've seen and increase in online learning and working, greater access to travel, and new technologies revolutionising the way we grow food, create power and move around our cities.

With students exploring topics ranging from vertical farms and gardens, to inner-city parklets, smart devices, autonomous vehicles, the future of food, and more, our ‘Gladstone Future Cities Challenge’ will push students to think big and think differently as they design their city in 30 years time.

Topics Covered:

  • Autonomous Vehicles
  • Renewable Energy Sources
  • Smart Homes
  • Sustainable Design
  • Public Spaces
  • Future Foods
  • The Future Of Work
