‘The Nature of the Hidden World: A Mega Story'

Journey to South Australia’s oldest country town, Gawler, to experience the Heritage Gallery exhibition ‘The Nature of the Hidden World: A Mega Story.'

In 1891 a rare diprotodon skeleton was unearthed at the back of a cottage in Gawler, close to the ford over the South Para River. Excited locals quickly informed the scientist Walter Howchin who was lecturing on geology and palaeontology at the Gawler Institute. This exhibition explores the connections between the First Nations peoples who lived in this area and hunted these animals, their Dreaming and the complex relationship between changes in climate and species extinction.  What can a shared understanding of Country and science and history tell us? Come and see.
