Thu, 24 Jul, 5pm - 7pm AEST

Event description

Canberra Glassworks invites you to a special glass making demonstration by 2025 Art Group Creative Fellow, Silvia Levenson from Italy.

Specialising in kiln forming and casting, Silvia is using her residency at Canberra Glassworks to explore glassblowing and experiment with combining different techniques. In this special glass making demonstration, Silvia will collaborate with master glass blower Annette Blair to transform a flat glass image into a blown vessel for the first time. Throughout the demonstration, Artistic Director Aimee Frodsham will provide live commentary and insights.

The Art Group Creative Fellowship program, part of Canberra Glassworks annual artist-in-residence initiative, fosters a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and professional practices between visiting international artists and those working within Canberra Glassworks. This year’s Fellow, Silvia Levenson, is dedicated to supporting the next generation of Australian glassmakers. Her highly refined approach to craftsmanship will help enhance the skills of emerging artists, ensuring the continuation of the Glassworks legacy as a world-class glass making facility.

Join us on Thursday, 24 July, from 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start. Catering provided by our friends at Brodburger.

This event is supported by Art Group Development.

About the artist

Originally from Argentina and now based in Italy, Silvia Levenson is an established glass artist specialising in cast glass. She is internationally renowned for her powerful lost-wax kilncast installations that explore the hidden tensions within human relationships. Her work gives form to what is often unspoken—situated in the subtle space between what we see and what we feel. She last visited Canberra Glassworks in 2020 to deliever a casting masterclass.

Levenson’s work has been exhibited and collected worldwide including major institutions in the US, Switzerland and Argentina. She is the recipient of the 2004 Rakow Commission and the 2016 Glass in Venice Award.

The Creative Fellowship is generously supported by Art Group Development.
