Description

For more than 100 years industry dominated Glebe's waterfront. Little now remains of these industries.

What was it like?

Early photographs of Blackwattle and Rozelle Bay together with Glebe maps and aerial photographs reveal the nature of Glebe waterfront then.

Transformation from industrial to residential waterfront began in the early 1970s which coincided with a sharp decline in manufacturing and, at the same time, the advent of container shipping which meant the need for a new port at Botany Bay and much industry shifting there and elsewhere.

Feel free to grab a drink at the Forest Lodge Hotel bar before the talk.

Once we wrap up, please stay for a chat and a meal (at your own cost). The Forest Lodge Hotel is known for tasty, well‑priced meals.

The Forest Lodge Hotel is on the corner of Arundel and Forest Streets - across the road from the Officeworks carpark entry.
