Event description

Welcome to the second session of Global Groove — a cultural dance mini-series brought to life by Lakes Multicultural Collective and Mana Tahuna.

From July to November, we’re inviting you to join us on a joyful journey through movement.
Each month, we’ll explore a different style of dance from around the world — taught by passionate local instructors, and designed especially for absolute beginners. These free, community-based classes are all about connection, curiosity, and having a go.

On Tuesday 26 August, we’re diving into Bachata, a romantic dance from the Dominican Republic.

Known for its gentle hip movements and heartfelt connection between partners, bachata blends style with emotion—perfect for anyone who loves music, movement, and mixing with a supportive community.

This session is led by Matías and Helene, founders of Queenstown Salsa, who bring a decade of teaching Latin dance in Aotearoa. Over the years they’ve built a welcoming space in Queenstown for salsa, bachata, and more—sharing the joy of Latin rhythms across all ages and backgrounds ﹣ making it easy for everyone in our multicultural community to join in.

You’ll learn bachata footwork and basic partner moves, feel the music’s warmth, and dance in pairs or as a group. It’s all about connection—both with the music and each other.
