Event description
Khichdi – Flavoursome Rice and Lentils (Vegetarian)
Dal Khichdi is a comfort Indian dish made from a pot of rice and lentils called dal, often including spices and added vegetables. Primary ingredients are basmati rice, yellow moong dal, other lentils, turmeric, cumin seeds, and salt. It is a nutritious meal commonly served with yoghurt or pickle.
Everyone, all over India, makes this dish because it is so easy, saves time, and the combination of rice and lentils is a complete protein source. It also tastes delicious!
Padma moved to Rangiora 9 years ago and loves the people here so much that she has recently become a New Zealand citizen. She is a yoga teacher at her own studio called Rangiora Yoga, and really loves her Indian cooking.
Come along and join Padma for a night of Indian cuisine and culture, and try out this tasty dish, along with a couple of side dishes that will also be on offer for you to make and taste.
