Glow Tour with Dr Lisa Gershwin

Event description

Venue : Hobart Rivulet, Meet outside Hamlet Cafe

Dates: 16 August 2024, 20 August 2024, 24 August 2024, 28 August 2024

Times:
6:30pm - 8.30pm

Glowing flora and fauna are among Tasmania's most spectacular natural wonders. Pink-glowing possums, green-glowing wallabies, blue-glowing sugar gliders, plus technicolour owls, flowers, and fungi! Join Dr Lisa Gershwin on this truly unforgettable experience. Lisa will share the glowing world with you through fascinating stories and show you how to get great photos to surprise your friends. Plus, you might even spot a platypus!

We will explore a safe forested parkland, in walking distance from Hobart’s CBD, in search of glowing marsupials, birds, flowers, and other species. The long and narrow shape of this splendid park naturally concentrates the animals, and because it is frequented by walkers and cyclists, the animals are less timid than in more remote settings, allowing us to watch them. Lisa will supply the ultraviolet (UV) torches and the natural history narrative, while nature will supply the wonder and awe.

Bring warm clothes and a sense of adventure and curiosity. And definitely bring a camera!

This tour is suitable for those 12+. If you'd like to bring younger children, please book the family-friendly tour.

More about Beaker Street

At Beaker Street, we invite people from all walks of life to peer through the lens of science. Here, impossible problems invite ingenious solutions, and uncertainty is a reason to come together — not to take sides.

Together — through eye-opening conversations, mind-expanding experiences, and maybe even a cold beer — we can uncover our shared reality.

Common ground can be found in the most unexpected of places. See you at Beaker Street, where science brings us together.
