Gluten-free in Perth? Come have a picnic with us! 💚
We're bringing the gluten-free community together for a relaxed Saturday morning picnic at beautiful Lake Jualbup in Shenton Park.
No presentations, no awkward networking and nothing too organised, just a chance to grab something delicious, sit outside and meet some other people from Perth's gluten-free community.
Lake Jualbup is just a short walk from Strange Grains Gluten Free Bakery, so you can pick up a sandwich, pie, cake or coffee on your way over if you'd like. Or simply bring your own favourite gluten-free food and drink from home.
Bring a picnic blanket, grab some food and come join us for a natter. ☕️🌿
Whether you're newly diagnosed with coeliac disease, have been gluten-free for years, or simply want to meet some people who understand the realities of gluten-free life, you're very welcome.
Come by yourself, bring a friend or bring your partner — we'll make sure nobody is left standing around wondering who to talk to!
What to expect
This is deliberately a very casual meetup. We'll gather at Lake Jualbup from 10:30am and spend a couple of hours eating, chatting and getting to know each other.
There's no set programme and you don't need to stay for the full two hours.
We'll send registered attendees more information about the exact meeting point before the event.
Please note: This event is organised independently by Coeliapp. Strange Grains is not the organiser or caterer for the event, and there is no requirement to purchase anything from them.
WHAT TO BRING
🌿 A picnic blanket or something comfortable to sit on
🥪 Your favourite gluten-free food (feel free to visit Strange Grains on your way to pick up something delicious, or bring along your favourite GF snacks from home)
☕️ Coffee, tea or another drink if you'd like one
🧴 Sunscreen / hat depending on the weather

Please take the usual care around your own dietary requirements when purchasing or sharing food. Coeliapp cannot guarantee the ingredients, preparation methods or cross-contact practices of food brought to or purchased for the event.
WEATHER
As this is an outdoor event, we'll keep an eye on the weather in the lead-up to the day. If poor weather means we need to change or postpone the picnic, we'll contact everyone who has registered through Eventbrite, so please make sure you register even though the event is free.
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO
We'll be taking some casual photos and short videos during the picnic to share on Coeliapp's website and social media channels. If you'd prefer not to be photographed or filmed, that's absolutely fine! Just let Rosie or the Coeliapp team know when you arrive and we'll make sure you're kept out of identifiable content.

- Can I come by myself?
Absolutely! We know coming to an event alone can sometimes feel a little daunting, but plenty of people will be coming solo. We’ll be there to welcome you and help make introductions.
- Do I need to buy food from Strange Grains?
Not at all. Strange Grains Gluten Free Bakery is just a short walk from Lake Jualbup, so you’re welcome to grab something there on your way, but you can also bring your own gluten-free food and drinks from home. This event is independently organised by Coeliapp and is not hosted or catered by Strange Grains.
- What should I bring?
Bring a picnic blanket or something comfortable to sit on, your choice of gluten-free food and/or drinks, and anything else you might need for a morning outdoors.
- What happens if the weather is bad?
We’ll keep an eye on the forecast in the lead-up to the picnic. If the weather means we need to change or postpone the event, we’ll contact everyone registered through Eventbrite.
