Event description

Experience an unforgettable night of original jazz!

Join the quartet featuring Jono Blackie (drums), Luke Belcher (bass), and James Lawton (tenor saxophone) as we bring to life music I composed for a Perth-based ensemble that toured to the Beijing International Jazz Festival.

This music has already made waves overseas — our performance in Beijing was the only one to receive both a standing ovation and an encore at the festival. Don’t miss this chance to experience that same energy and creativity live in concert!

BIO

Glyn MacDonald – Jazz Pianist, Composer, & Multi-Instrumentalist

With a career spanning continents and genres, Glyn MacDonald stands as a versatile force in the world of music. From his early performances across Canada, England, Rome, Scotland, Wales, and Australia, Glyn's journey unfolded with a passion for jazz that never waned.

A graduate in Classical Trombone and Jazz Piano from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Glyn's musical prowess quickly earned recognition. Notably, his performance at the Vancouver Jazz Festival propelled him into the limelight, featured as CBC radio's Artist of the Month and culminating in three albums, including the acclaimed "Live @The Cellar: Glyn MacDonald Trio."

Collaborating with esteemed artists like James Morrison, Andy Firth, and Rufus Reid, Glyn's repertoire expanded, contributing to Perth's vibrant jazz scene. His recordings, including original works like "Self Titled 2004" and "Birth 2009," garnered rave reviews, extensive airplay, and international distribution.

Transitioning seamlessly between instruments and styles, Glyn's contributions to various bands and ensembles, such as the "Perth Jazz Orchestra," "Salamander," and the award-winning Stratosfunk, showcased his diverse musical abilities.

His journey continued with invitations to perform globally, from the Villa Cillemontana Jazz Festival in Rome to sellout shows at the Beijing International Jazz Festival. Notably, his trio graced prestigious events like the State Reception for Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh and later for the Prince of Belgium.
