Following on from Mike Cavanagh’s previous in-person workshops and online courses, this new online memoir course provides opportunities for you to hone and extend your skills, while providing a base grounding for those just starting out.

This course is fully online over 5 weeks.

Individual tailoring is a keystone for this online course/workshop where we’ll take a flexible approach to ensure you get what you want out of it. If you have completed any of the previous SCWC memoir writing workshops but are seeking more, or to consolidate what you’ve now learned, this course is ideal. But rest assured, even if you’ve never raised pen or hit a keyboard in anger, or joy for that matter, this course will provide you with the tools and motivation you’ll need to make your mark.

While the course is designed to adapt to your needs, there will be two streams from which you can choose.

Beginners: This course is focussed on the how of writing your memoir: techniques, approaches, getting your prose to ‘speak’. This stream is best suited to those with little or no writing experience.

Intermediate: This stream will focus on distilling and refining your story, whether you’ve yet to put pen to paper or already have a draft. This one is best suited to those who are more comfortable with their writing skills and are looking further to ensure the heartbeat of their story is loud and clear.

To the question ‘Can I do both?’ the simple answer is yes, but be aware that this is an active course, i.e. you’ll be doing, not just listening, both while online and between sessions. You’ll have double the work load if you opt into both streams.
