Goatbarn Lane Tour

Located in the mountains west of Boulder, Goatbarn Lane House is a modern retreat designed in close dialogue with its rugged landscape. Designed by Renée del Gaudio for her father, the home reflects a philosophy of living with less—prioritizing simplicity, durability, and a strong connection to the natural environment.

The project received is an AIA Colorado 2022 Design Award of Excellence Award recipient, a 2022 American Institute of Architects National Small Project + Housing Award, as well as a 2022 Residential Design Architecture Award.

This tour will explore how the house responds to the realities of building in a wildfire-prone mountain setting through the use of noncombustible materials, a restrained material palette, and thoughtful environmental design. Rather than extensively reshaping the site, the home is carefully positioned within the existing terrain, preserving rock formations, mature trees, and wildlife corridors while capturing expansive mountain views and natural light.

Limited to 15 participants, the tour will offer an intimate experience of how a relatively modest footprint can feel expansive through vertical volume, transparency, and carefully choreographed spatial relationships. The tour will also highlight the project’s passive heating and cooling strategies, exposed structural systems, and finely crafted interiors, demonstrating how contemporary architecture can balance resilience, sustainability, and warmth within a highly sensitive natural setting.

WHERE: Meet at the Centennial Trailhead Parking Lot, group will then carpool up to the home. Address is 301 Sunshine Canyon Dr, Boulder, CO 80302
