Gain a deeper insight into space exploration and Australia’s future contribution to space as Dr. Charles Elachi (JPL, Caltech) joins us for this special hybrid event on the 3rd of May.

As the Director of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for 15 years, Dr. Elachi led the development, spaceflight, landing, and operation of multiple spacecraft and rovers that have redefined our understanding of the solar system and our universe.

Drawing on his distinguished career with some of the leading space institutions, he will discuss the past and present state of space exploration as it supports NASA’s Artemis program, the search for life on Mars utilising helicopters, investigating the outer solar system, and the work being done to learn more about our own Earth.

Following his retirement from JPL, Dr. Elachi joined the University of Adelaide’s Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources. Here he will continue to play a critical role in the development of the next stage of space exploration activities designed, built, and flown from Australia in support of the Australian Space Agency, Australian industry, science, and education.
