Event description

Participants will be treated to a private tour of the oldest remaining cottage west of the Hawkesbury River, “Goldfinder’s” c1809 located at Kurrajong beside Little Wheeny Creek. This State recognised 19th century historic grouping includes a sandstone Inn that also became the General Store, further early additions to the cottage, the slab barn as well as more recent room linkages between the parts, all within its culturally significant curtilage of mature trees, including magnolia and camellia.

Enjoy a BYO picnic lunch beneath the large variegated Elm at Goldfinder's.

After lunch drive along the early track west, now Bells Line of Road, to “Lochiel” located on Douglass Farm, the earliest parcel of land granted at Kurrajong Heights. Then stroll around Kurrajong Heights to learn about the grouping of other notable historic buildings that contribute to this historic village precinct.

Tour leaders will be Christopher and Deborah Hallam, owners, in conjunction with Graham Edds, conservation architect.
