Event description

The combination of flute and harp has been the ensemble of choice for the sonic study of the celestial; depicted in art as far back as Ancient Greece.  Mozart's relatively recent concerto is a perfect example of this sweet union.  Yet it was Claude Debussy who endeavoured to reshape this angelic bond with the pithy, earth-bound viola as his protagonist.  The wonderful juxtaposition of timbres in his trio, gives the viola a bass like quality, emancipating the harp from purely harmonic duties and allowing a plethora of unique textures.

This program showcases the three instruments in recent works by Anne Boyd, Saariaho and Felicity Wilcox alongside two maverick European composers of the past, CPE Bach and Claude Debussy.

APQ’s James Wannan is joined by Brisbane based flute soloist, Jonathan Henderson and Sydney based, American harpist virtuoso, Emily Granger.
