This winter, the Free Speech Union New Zealand is hitting the road. The Good Faith Yarns Tour brings honest, good-faith conversation to ten communities across the country, including the regional centres that so often get left out of the national conversation. With a general election on the horizon, public debate is getting louder and more polarised. We want to do something different.
What does the future of New Zealand look like — and who gets to shape it? AI, technology, and innovation are rewriting the rules faster than our institutions can keep up. The question of who benefits, who gets left behind, and whether we're even asking the right questions has never been more urgent.
Joining Ani O'Brien in his home city of Dunedin is Sir Ian Taylor — founder of world-leading computer graphics company Animation Research Ltd and recipient of a Knighthood for services to broadcasting, business and the community. Born to a Pākehā father and Māori mother, he grew up without electricity and went on to build one of New Zealand's most globally recognised tech companies — all from Dunedin. He's thought deeply about technology, identity, and what New Zealand owes its people.
