Event description

Rising Arts Productions is proud to be auditioning for their upcoming production of Good Works, as directed by Sharlette Bourke & Mykala Godden.

Crossing back and forth through time, Nick Enrights Good Works traverses three generations of the Donovan and Kennedy families. Spanning from the 1920’s to 1980’s exploits the developing identity of Australia and the societal tensions that emerge amongst the diverse range of characters within the script. The play is housed in a small country town where gossip and cruelty are often the most reliable defenses.

Good Works utlises six actors taking on multiple characters to create the ‘memory’ effect Enright’s script demands. The transitions between scenes are instant and sometimes overlapping, quickly switching between warm, funny and nostalgic interactions to crude, malicious and sudden violence.

Good Works depicts the fading friendship between Rita and Mary Maragret as they age and their beliefs and personalities begin to clash. After going their separate ways their sons Tim and Shane, who upon meeting at the all boys school become friends. As each of the characters age they become products of the pivotal changes of society at this point in history.
