Fishstock presents: GOORUMBOO Music Festival

Celebrating our common ground, we come together to enjoy First Nations and Aussie artists, community spirit, and the simple joy of live music in a beautiful place. Goorumboo is a positive, creative festival that showcases both up-and-coming and well-established musicians and artists found in our own backyard, bringing together a solid mix of solo acoustic performers and bands across a wide range of genres.

Fishstock first began over 25 years ago! It’s always been a volunteer-run event, started by a couple of mates on a family farm — and it’s stayed true to that spirit ever since. This year, we’re taking it a step further and celebrating Goorumboo - Spirit of the Mountain

After generations of our community fighting to protect significant cultural sites and endangered flora and fauna on the mountain that overlooks the festival grounds, we finally succeeded in stopping its planned destruction. This victory came through collaboration between First Nation and local community members.

For us, this is a powerful example of what can happen when we work together. We’ve chosen to make that spirit of shared purpose the theme for this year’s festival — a celebration of the common ground we share and the positive outcomes we can achieve together.

This is a family-friendly day, full of music, stories and dance. This event is focused on raising funds for the local community, promoting local music — and of course, on having a great time together.

FREE OVERNIGHT CAMPING IS STILL AVAILABLE BUT SITES ARE LIMITED, so please let us know via the checkout questions if you intend to camp the night.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Kutcha Edwards: One of the country's most respected, multi award-winning First Nation singer-songwriters – He is known as a former member of the band Blackfire and more recently, he has fronted the Kutcha Edwards Band. "Quite possibly the finest contemporary singer of his generation" - Rhythms Magazine.

Bumpy: Award-winning Noongar woman and Naarm-based artist Bumpy has a voice that ripples stars. Bumpy is a force. Going by her childhood nickname – earned for a habit of bumping into all kinds of obstacles – she pulls from the strength found in tenderness, scars and all. A shimmering collection of R&B and neo-soul. it delicately unravels to reveal a singer of extraordinary ability: emotional, captivating, a towering talent.

Bart Willoughby (of No Fixed Address), Selwyn Burns (Coloured Stone/No Fixed Adress), Tjimba Possum Burns( No Fixed Address/Yung Warriors) and Alinta Willoughby-Dingey. Bart and Selwyn - the Pioneering First Nations Reggae Artists best known for such life altering and defiant Indigenous anthems like “We Have Survived” - teams up with Tjimba, a First Nation musician known for being part of the hip-hop group Tjimba and the Yung Warriors and Alinta (Bart's daughter and musician). Their music combines Reggae folk and rock with traditional First Nations themes of culture, land, and pride. A super group uniting music legends and family going by the working title of Willoughby/Burns on fire!

Squid Nebula: Pairing cosmic groove with psychedelic disco and fronted by the hypnotic soul vocals of Noongar musician Bumpy, backed by a killer band that have spent the better part of a decade lighting up the dance floors of Victoria and are a crowd favourite.

Deans of Soul: is an original soul/R&B group from Melbourne. Their music is described as "melted honey." They combine soul, funk and old school R & B influences to create a modern Melbourne soul sound, with velvet smooth vocals, sweet harmonies, soaring heartbreak guitar, deep Motown bass grooves and hip-shaking rhythms.

Wayne Thorpe: born in Bratowaloong Clan country (which includes the festival site) and is of the Gunnai and Yorta Yorta traditional Family language groups. With over 4 decades of performing experience, he is dedicated to promoting culture through language of song, story and dance. His original live music tells some great yarns about his life and cultural experiences.

Mini Waters: A classic sounding indie-folk and alt-country band lead by Mitch Rubly. It's a little bit Wilco, with shades of Joni and Randy, but still very much it's own free spirit. Pairing Mitchell's buttery voice and warm-as-toast lyricism with a red hot rhythm section, sunny pedal steel, playfully interwoven percussion and a whole lot of Mick Power guitar wizardry,

Quality Used Cars: Built around the idiosyncratic songwriting and warbling vocals of Francis Tait, and brought to life by a band of hard-working familiar faces from within Narrm/Melbourne’s bubbling underground music communities, Quality Used Cars put full focus on Francis’ charismatic storytelling, over a backdrop that blends sunny Australiana with alt-country tenderness and scrappy garage-pop smarts.

Ozone Street: a young four-piece blues outfit from the Bass Coast (a real local favourite). Their sound has been described as “a refreshing blend of vintage blues and surf-inspired melodies that transport audiences to sun-soaked shores and dimly lit blues bars.”

Smiley Doherty: from original, soulful folk ballads, deeply connected to the land and blues numbers that make you want to get up and boogie, to soaring psychedelic rock classics, this extremely talented 5-piece band lead by Kate Smiley, Peter Doherty and friends, takes you on a journey across genres and musical landscapes to a very happy place. Sure to be a big crowd pleaser and not to be missed.

The Acquaintances: are an exciting 7-piece whatever-genre-tickles-their-fancy band with intricate vocal harmonies and a story to tell. Singer/songwriter, Rebecca Bone, captures the audience’s attention with emphatic tales of social equality, injustices and whatever pisses her off, all in a slightly pointless but quite cathartic attempt to make a little patch of the world marginally better one song at a time. There is much laughter, irreverence, some sadness and anger, all wrapped up in plenty of rollicking tunes. The incredible artistry of Roy John (drums), Fiona Curram (guitar/vocals), Benny Yarram (bass), Andrew Mapes Murray (electric guitar), and Joanne Moloney (vocals), complete the dynamic experience of watching this energetic band live.
