About the Artist

Doors open 30' before start time

Make It Yourself is Pianodrome's brand new festival — a five day celebration of DIY culture, creativity and local community, running during October half term from 14th–18th October 2026 at Pianodrome Bruntsfield Community Hub.

Supported by the Edinburgh Council Local Events Fund, this hyper-local festival brings together makers, musicians, artists and community organisations for five days of workshops, live music, art exhibitions and open mic performances, all rooted in our core ethos of upcycling, innovation and working together.

About the Artist:
The Gordon McGruer Trio is led by Gordon McGruer, a songwriter and pedal steel guitarist based in Edinburgh. He approaches the stage with “earnest singing, and unwavering confidence on the guitar” to sing folk songs about drunk magicians, truckloads of bees and stealing soil from a rich man’s garden. Gordon’s recent explorations include a suite of lullabies and hymns arranged for the pedal steel. These ballads seek to re-contextualise the steel guitar as a songwriter’s instrument, uprooting it from its backing role in country and western.
