Governance From The Ground Up: Public Kōrero For Creatives
Description
Watch This Space presents an interactive kōrero for artists, makers, producers and anyone putting creative work into public space, whether murals, sculptures, projections or installations.
Multidisciplinary creative Juanita Hepi (Kāi Tahu, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngātiwai, Ngāpuhi) leads a practical session on working meaningfully with mana whenua, tangata whenua and Ngā Toi Māori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
What does it mean to make work on someone else’s whenua? How do we build relationships rather than tick boxes? Who holds authority over stories, symbols and place? And what happens when we get it wrong?
Joining us via video are Tāmaki Makaurau artists (and recent Art New Zealand cover stars) Charles and Janine Williams who will reflect on their unique experiences as Māori artists exploring a range of projects in public spaces.
Come with questions. Leave with better ones, and some practical ways forward!
