Governing In Partnership With The Birrarung / Yarra & Werribee River's - Working with Water series (Event 5/5)
Event description
Learning to understand urban waterways as legally-recognised living entities. How are businesses and organisations changing the way they approach stakeholder governance and embedding reciprocal relationships with Nature into the DNA of their business models?
Event #5 of the Working with Water series will be run in partnership with the Yarra Riverkeeper and the Werribee River Associations, welcoming professionals and concerned citizens with a passion for Nature Rights, environmental justice, climate resilience and urban swimming.
Together, we’ll dive into the exciting and complex realms of contemporary water policy and governance systems as part of integrated water management. This event is also connected to the collective impact 'Swimmable Birrarung by 2030' project being convened by Regen Melbourne and the inaugural Birrarung Riverfest, a month-long celebration of the river starting on World Rivers' Day. This festival allows everyone to connect to each other and the river's life force.
We hope your participation will lead to a growing movement of people advocating for and stewarding the river and all her critters.
It takes a village to care for our urban waterways, so come and get involved!
Special guests:
Dr Erin O'Donnell, University of Melbourne
Charlotte Sterrett, Yarra Riverkeeper
John Forrester, Werribee River Association
Reinvesting in Water Country
All proceeds will be reinvested back into our grassroots environmental partner organisations to support their essential frontline work as part of Regen Projects and La Loyka’s respective 1% for the Planet commitments.
Background
Matt Sykes at Regen Projects and Karin Traeger at La Loyka (her new consultancy) have teamed up with grassroots water organisations across Naarm / Melbourne for a 5-part event series called Working with Water. In the month leading up to World Rivers Day, these interactive conversation circles are designed to inspire and mobilise leaders from business, government, community, non-profits and First Nations to become active in the integrated care and management of their local urban waterways. The events will raise awareness about the critical issues facing these life support systems, from stormwater pollution to climate change and biodiversity loss. We’ll also spotlight the frontline professionals working across the system to embed innovative solutions for today, tomorrow and future generations.
