Event description

Enjoy views of the Southern Ocean within Encounter Marine Park, orange hues of huge granite boulders, and native coastal vegetation and wildlife.

Walk around Granite Island with a highly experienced NPWS Volunteer Ranger, happy to share their knowledge as they walk with you. Gain better insight into the islands interesting history, learn about the birds, and how the rangers and other organisations are working to protect the island and its feathered residents.

Please note that end times may vary.

ACCESSIBILITY

The walk is a Grade 3 which is suitable for most ages and fitness levels, but a moderate level of fitness is recommended for this event. Accessible toilets are available on the island.

MEETING LOCATION

The event will begin from the entrance of Granite Island (end of the Causeway, on the island). There is no parking on the island, but you can park in Victor Harbour, by the northern end of the Victor Harbour Tramway.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Enclosed walking shoes
  • Hat, sunscreen, sun protective clothing
  • Any personal medications
  • Drinking water (minimum 1L per person)
  • Binoculars (optional)

EVENT CANCELLATIONS

This park is closed on days of Cat­a­stroph­ic Fire Dan­ger and may also be closed on days of Extreme Fire Danger. In the case of park closure or other hazardous weather (and other) events, the walks will be cancelled, and you will be notified via Humanitix.
