Grassroots circularity and local transitions
Description
Governments at state, national and international levels are starting to introduce policies to support a circular economy — one that uses resources for longer and gets more value out of them. The goal is to reduce waste going to landfill, recover more materials, and respond to growing resource shortages and climate change.
But for these policies to work, they need to be put into action locally. Local communities are also where new ideas can be tested — moving beyond recycling to focus on reusing, repairing, sharing and regenerating materials, and rethinking what we even consider “waste”.
Join us for a conversation with MVS volunteer and recent PhD graduate Corey Ferguson, who will share insights from his research on why these broader “R” principles matter, and how local, grassroots action can drive real change.
The MVS Rethinking Waste Collective also invites others in our community who are working towards a circular economy to be part of this discussion, as we explore how we can work together locally to create a more fair and sustainable future in Moonee Valley.
