Grazing for Growth: MLA PDS Project Update

Making the most of your pasture to improve livestock production and profitability.

Join us for an on-farm field day in Widgelli, NSW, exploring how better grazing management can improve pasture utilisation, livestock performance and farm profitability.

As part of the MLA Producer Demonstration Site (PDS) project, Optimising Grazing Management for Improved Production Outcomes, we’ll share findings from the first season of monitoring across sheep and cattle demonstration sites, alongside practical insights from industry specialists.

Growing more grass is only part of the equation. The real opportunity lies in converting the pasture you grow into productive livestock, while making informed decisions about grazing management, seasonal feed supply and the costs of production.

What to expect:

MLA PDS Project Update – Grazing management in practice with Ally Morona (Yenda Prods)

Hear early findings from our sheep and cattle demonstration sites, exploring pasture growth, grazing timing, utilisation and livestock performance. Discover how pasture measurements can help identify opportunities to get more from your existing feed base.

Agronomic Update – Growing and utilising more pasture with Darren McCormick (Yenda Prods)

Explore pasture growth stages, seasonal growth patterns, pasture quality and expected growing season. Learn how to better match stocking rates to feed supply, optimise grazing timing and residuals, and reduce pasture wastage while maintaining productive, persistent pastures.

Grazing Economics – Connecting pasture to profit with Phil Graham (Graham Advisory)

Explore how pasture production and utilisation translate into livestock production and business performance. Discuss the costs and potential benefits of grazing management decisions, including assessing the cost of producing pasture dry matter and livestock live weight gain.
