Byron’s Badass Women of Song

Come celebrate International Women’s Day with a feast of local Byron Bay talent as Cass Eager, Sarah Grant, Shelly Brown, and The Material Girls join forces to showcase original songs at The Byron Theatre on March 8th.
It’ll be a big night of big voices as these world-class locals grace the theatre stage with their killer bands.

Cass Eager
Cass is an R&B soul blues singer with a sound that embodies old-school cool with bold sexy optimism. Her sound takes its cue from a vintage sonic swagger a-la Amy Winehouse and Sharon Jones, and when you press play you’ll want to be sipping cocktails at your favourite lounge bar in LA with best friends and lovers alike.

Cass’s songs remind you that if the champagne glass isn’t already full, then it’s at least half-full (and definitely never empty). Her signature chocolate-coated vocals are drenched in a feel-good vibe and her megawatt smile and natural charisma draw you in with gravitational force. Her songs shine a light on the woman you've been, the one you are becoming, and the one you’re meant to be.

Cass finds joy in hammocks, road trips, coffee, whiskey, sunsets, the moon, the ocean, anything vintage, rebels, muses, young-at-hearts, palm trees, velvet, denim, soul, R&B, rock’n’roll and eternal adventure.

Shelly Brown
Raised by sailors & aviators on a steady diet of singing around the family table, Shelly Brown was accustomed to Aussie folk & sea shanties from the get-go. Into the study of music she went, meeting jazz & soul music and her husband, on keys. Overseas tours and independent albums ensued; house concerts & a house flood; a passion for leading vocal and songwriting workshops to warm the soul, leading a weekly Brunch Choir in Lennox Head, and don’t miss her singing podcast; “Singing Lessons For No One” which is nearing 100k streams.

Great Southern Nights is a celebration of live music and will feature a taster series of performances across Enmore, Marrickville, Newtown, Parramatta and Penrith for ten nights from 16-25 November 2023 ahead of a full program in March 2024. NSW Government through Destination NSW and in partnership with ARIA, aims to stimulate the live music, entertainment and hospitality sectors through a line up of live gigs from household names, emerging talent and grassroots local acts across key NSW districts. Located in the centre of Byron Bay, within walking distance to the best cafes, restaurants, nightlife, accommodation and the beach, the Byron Theatre is the ideal North Coast venue. Whether you want to take in a film premiere or attend a comedy show, the theatre is Byron's best place to do it. An outstanding contemporary venue, with a wide variety of live Music, Dance, Theatre, Film, Festivals and Talks.

Superb acoustics, intimate atmosphere and friendly staff

Byron Theatre is an amphitheatre-style auditorium with tiered seating for 246 people. The theatre is fully air-conditioned and features a cinema-size screen with state-of-the-art audio visual and sound facilities, including surround sound and Digital Cinema Package format (DCP).The theatre seating can be retracted to leave an open space with a 200-square metre floor suitable for cabaret-style setup or a dancefloor. The Theatre Bar and outdoor courtyard are always available for events.

A non-profit theatre for the local community

The Byron Theatre is part of the Byron Community Centre's not-for-profit social enterprise model. As a social enterprise, tickets to events in our theatre are worth a lot more than their dollar value. This means that funds raised from ticket sales will go towards a good cause and are used to provide services, programs and events that benefit our local community here in Byron Bay. Every time you see an event in our theatre you’re helping us run vibrant and inclusive social and cultural programs for our local community.

A cosy courtyard bar hidden away in the centre of Byron Bay

Situated in our garden courtyard, the Theatre Bar welcomes our patrons to mingle, meet friends and get together before shows and during intermissions. The bar offers light snacks, as well as a great assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Plan to drop by a little earlier and enjoy a drink and a chat. Patrons are welcome to take their drinks into the theatre. The theatre and bar generally opens one hour before every performance.
