Event description

EMERGING ARTIST CONCERT  SERIES is an opportunity to meet and hear exceptional young musicians in our community and to discover new music. Live music is a shared experience between the performer and the audience; the audience's enthusiasm inspires our performers. The performer's dedication and passion offer audiences an uplifting concert and an opportunity to share the musical journey of our next generation of musicians.

The program is a partnership between St Jude's Music Association Bowral and Inspire Music Aust. and is supported by donors from the Southern Highlands Community and Highlands FM107.1.

Jude Macarthur is a trumpet player from Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains. He is currently in his third year studying a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in classical trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium under the tutelage of Leanne Sullivan and David Elton.

Jude began playing trumpet at eight, joining his local brass band. In 2016, he joined the Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO) as a member of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra before joining The Sydney Youth Orchestra (flagship) in 2019. That same year, he toured with SYO to the UK. Since 2018, Jude has played in various Australian Youth Orchestra programs, including 2018 Young Symphonists, 2019, 2021, and 2023 National Music Camp, 2023 Chamber Players, and 2023 Autumn Season and Winter Season. He has also performed with various Conservatorium orchestras and ensembles as part of his studies.

Jude has also performed with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Penrith Symphony Orchestra, and the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra's Young Mannheim Symphonists programs. Jude is excited to be playing this recital program as part of InspireMusic Aust's concert series.

John Martin's work is familiar to concertgoers and listeners of Australia's classical radio networks. He has been featured on ABC Classic FM's Drive Time segment "On the Verandah" and is frequently broadcast. In addition, his 2013 release on the Wirripang label "The Ring of New Bells" — a collection of Miriam Hyde's piano works — was extensively broadcast.

A former recipient of overseas grants from the Australia Council Music Board and Opera Foundation, he studied in England with pianists Clifford Benson and Paul Hamburger. In addition, he has frequently partnered with many of Australia's best known Classical singers and instrumentalists, including; Peter Cousens, David Hobson, Marina Prior, Stuart Maunder, Greta Bradman, Yvonne Kenny, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, gypsy-jazz violinist Ian Cooper, Dominica Matthews, and Judith Rough.

John has been a frequent adjudicator for music competitions, and his guidance and mentoring abilities mean that he is also kept busy working with aspiring young performers, something very close to his heart! John is also gaining a reputation as a fine composer with some 60 works published.
