Green Drinks Civics 101: Your Voice
Event description
What: Wao Green Drinks -Â CIVICS 101: Your VoiceÂ
Where: The Albie Tavern @ 20 Alison Ave, Albert Town
When:Â August 22nd from 5:00-7pm
What is Civics? Civics is the study of the rights and obligations of citizens in society. The term derives from the Latin word civicus, meaning "relating to a citizen".
Who if this for:
- Anyone who has never voted and would like to find out more.
- Anyone who might need a refresher on what our voting system is.
- Anyone new to New Zealand who would like to understand how our voting system works.Â
In this Green Drinks event we will look at the basics of the New Zealand political system and how to get involved, including how to vote in the upcoming elections.Â
Kathy Dedo, civics enthusiast and Deputy Chair of Central Lakes Trust, will run through the basics before handing the floor over to Ethan Reille, an 18 years old political candidate in the upcoming national elections, and Cody Tucker, one of Queenstown-Lakes District councillors.
Come join us in an evening learning about how everyone is part of the New Zealand political system and how your voice can not only be heard, but also how important it is to get it out there.
We will also launch the much anticipated Wao Summit 2023 program - an occasion to celebrate together!
*Please note that this event is only based on the basics of government and elections. We will not be covering candidate campaigns or stances nor will we be covering any upcoming policies.
