Newcastle Youth Orchestra is pleased to announce a wonderful, entertaining activity for children taking part in holiday care in the upcoming September school holidays.
In 2022 Newcastle Youth Orchestra presented an orchestral interpretation of Dr Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham with resounding success. We have been asked on many occasions to repeat the season. Thanks to the support of the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, we are delighted to announce a season of performances of this iconic story.
The program will last approximately 50 minutes, allowing participants and carers to incorporate other activities throughout the day, such as the Newcastle Museum, Fort Scratchley, Civic Park, Newcastle Library, and other educational, entertaining activities that Newcastle has to offer.
Thanks to the generous support of the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, we are pleased to announce that all tickets to this concert are heavily discounted, and free for Out of School Care group supervising staff!
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to reach out. I have attached a range of materials with information about the program and booking details.
A little about Green Eggs and Ham
What is it about Green Eggs & Ham, the Dr Seuss classic published in 1960, that is so lovable and enduring? We know it is a parable written for children. Yet we also know there is much more to it than that.
American Composer Robert Kapilow has set the text, along with a supporting performance of Mozarts Eine Kleine Nachmusik highlighting the power of music to tell a story.
Dr Ian Cook will conduct a Newcastle Youth Orchestra Chamber Ensemble, who alongside vocalists Sara Carvalo and Fiona Collins, will portray the quirky imagination of Dr Seuss in a brilliant orchestral interpretation of this story. The production will be led by celebrated director, Ghillian Sullivan.
During the school holidays and for the entertainment of all ages, from young kids to early teenagers (and parents and carers too!) we hope to send a simple message for everybody to treasure.
Be courageous, and always try things for yourself before you judge them. You’ll never know if it's for you until you do.
