Local Government Visions and Actions to reduce Power Costs for Residents

Come and hear Mitcham Council Mayor Dr Heather Holmes-Ross speak about council initiatives to provide lower cost green power to Mitcham residents using community solar and battery installations.

These initiatives may well open doors for churches to gain access to lower cost power by working with Councils and to get a head start on achieving the Uniting Church’s target of zero emissions by 2040.

Heather is President of the Local Government Association and is passionate about improving access to cheap, renewable energy for rate-payers. She has been active in initiating new programs
such as Mitcham’s green energy plan and collaboration with ShineHub, which target environmental sustainability, and in particular, preparing communities for the effects of a warmer, more volatile planet.
