Greener Groups: Ways to make your community group or organisation more sustainable

Price FREE Get tickets

Event description

Local groups and service organisations are in an ideal position to change hearts, minds, and behaviours around climate issues. Their members are often seen as leaders in the community and modellers of positive behaviour. By building sustainability principles into your everyday operations, your group or organisation can set an example for others in the community, and improve your own green credentials for environmental, financial, and societal benefit.

This session will help your group or organisation incorporate simple, effective energy and waste practices into your day-to-day operations. Using group discussion and fun activities, this interactive workshop will look at the barriers groups experience, explore how environmental issues can affect your members and clients, and introduce you to circular economy principles for a more sustainable future.

During the session, you’ll complete activities to help you identify ways in which your group or organisation’s current practices could be improved, and develop a take-home plan for some simple goals to implement now and in the longer term. You’ll also learn about the psychology of behaviour change and how to get wider members of the group on board with new strategies and goals.

Topics include:
  • the major environmental issues affecting us today
  • how sustainable choices benefit your group and your client base
  • improving the sustainability of your group's day-to-day operations
  • developing a plan for short and longer term goals
  • Connecting with other groups looking to make positive change

About the REthink Nillumbik Project

The REthink Nillumbik Project is a series of fun, interactive workshops to create a more sustainable and liveable Nillumbik. Sessions cover a range of activities that can help us reimagine our collective approach to energy and waste. Get off the consumption treadmill and learn to refuse, reduce, repair, reuse, repurpose, replace, and recycle your way to a healthier lifestyle and planet!

Sessions are collaborative, hands-on, and will help you take small actions that can lead to serious, positive change. They include practical demonstrations, creative activities, and ideas for rethinking everyday choices and behaviours. Ditch the boring lectures and learn how to make stuff, do stuff, and choose stuff for a better world!
