Once upon a time we haven't seen yet, stories are forbidden. And for good reason.
In a world where books have been destroyed, stories are dangerous and imagination is a threat, a group of girls dare to do the one thing they’ve been told never to do: tell stories.
But these aren’t the fairytales you remember.
Inspired by the dark and twisted world of Shake & Stir Theatre Co.’s wildly successful production GRIMM, currently touring Australia, GRIMM TALES takes a familiar world of fairytales and turns it on its head. Beneath the stories of wicked characters, impossible choices and seemingly innocent beginnings lies something far more sinister.
Because stories have power. They make us imagine something different. They make us hope. And in a world built on fear and control, hope can be a dangerous thing.
Now in its fourth year, Lock&Hock Productions’ The UNLOCK Project brings this bold theatrical reimagining to the stage in an exciting association with Brisbane-based Shake & Stir Theatre Co. The project continues to challenge and develop young regional performers through ambitious, production-based theatre-making to extend aspiring actors.
Dark, twisted and unsettlingly close to home, GRIMM TALES asks what happens when the stories we tell become our only means of survival.
Forget happily ever after. Some stories are better left untold.

- Does GRIMM TALES have any age restrictions?
GRIMM TALES has some themes of horror, gruesome description and supernatural content. We recommend audiences over 12 years of age and parental supervision for anyone younger.
- Do you mean to have THURSDAY as one of your show days?
YES! Our performance dates are THURSDAY Dec 3 and FRIDAY Dec 4.
- Are GRIMM TALES just normal children's fairytales?
No. GRIMM TALES has been inspired by the well known Brothers Grimm tales AND Nelle Lee's cabaret GRIMM by Shake & Stir Theatre Company. They are not the regular children's tales you may know from childhood. If you would like to prepare for the show, you could look at the original Little Red Riding Hood, Ashputtel, The Little Peasant, Rumplestiltskin and The Robber Bridegroom.
- Is this a scary show?
We wouldn't describe GRIMM TALES as scary - but more gruesome or uneasy. In saying that however, it is very funny and has a contemporary feel to the characters
