GROUND: Spoken Word
Event description
GROUND: Spoken Word is a night of poetry and words in response to the artwork and the themes of EARTH showing in Gallery Two from 21 JAN - 18 FEB.
What grounds you? Where do you fit into nature? Where does nature exist in you? What ecosystems have been special to you, in what environments have you flourished? Think of the beauty of Earth. Think of the ugliness - a bulldozed cleave in a cliff. Axe wound in a trunk. Sap drip dripping static froze in stasis, exoskeleton trapped. Remember the smell of clay, the feel of dirt in your hands. Green growing. Ancient shape of rock caved in by time. In out, in out, ocean tides, and rivers flowing like veins. Humans have been speaking on Earth and on Wadawurrung Country, conversation and song and poetry too, for a long time. We’ve really dug our roots in.Â
Facilitated by EARTH curator Phoebe Thompson, the night will feature poetry readings from exhibiting artists and local poets. There will be an open mic list on the night open to all. Beginners and total rookies are very welcome and so very encouraged. You are invited to come, sit, listen. Or stand up and share. Ground yourself.Â
This event will be held off-site at Valhalla Taproom at 12 - 14 Union Street Geelong on Wednesday 16th February. Arrive at 7.00PM for a 7.30PM start, running until approximately 9.00PM.
EARTH is showing in Gallery Two at Platform Arts, 60 Little Malop Street, from 21 JAN - 18 FEB.
