Growing Mushrooms

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Suitable for any space, mushrooms are the ideal crop for gardeners with restricted space or sunlight. This hands-on, beginners' workshop is a skill-sharing lesson, which will demonstrate how easy it is to grow fresh produce with a low budget, a limited space and in an urban environment. These delicious delicacies are loaded with protein, and the spent spawn makes the perfect addition to your soil or compost heap.

You'll learn all about the life cycle of fungi, how to create a grow bag of your own, how to recognize contamination and what to do about it! You'll even take home your own 4kg grow bag which will provide you with bountiful produce once you apply the knowledge learnt in the session.

Emma Wasson of Mycellium Futures is passionate about mushrooms and can't wait to share her passion with the locals of Maribyrnong. She believes food production is just the spore of what these fabulous fungi can bring into our lives.

Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.
