This panel conversation will explore ways in which three really different programmes are supporting their target groups to grow, contribute to the future and be acknowledged for their learning. This includes the growing of employability and life skills, greater connection with community, and making a positive difference to society. Each panelist will share some of the ways in which their work encompasses transdisciplinary learning and future enabling opportunities for all.

Panelists:

Deanna Anderson is the Establishment Lead for the Energy Academy. The Energy Academy’s vision is that all New Zealanders are enabled to create a sustainable energy future that is owned by New Zealanders, adapts to the capabilities needed, and is a place where people fulfil their purpose.

Sam Johnson is a civic entrepreneur who brings people together to make things happen. He works to create stronger social infrastructure and resilience through volunteering and service in New Zealand and around the world. Sam is Chief Executive of Student Volunteer Army Foundation, focusing on mobilising people of all ages to better understand and embrace the value ‘takoha’ - Māori for giving your time to others without an expectation of reward.

Billy O'Steen is the Director of the UC Community Engagement Hub and Associate Professor of Community Engagement. Billy facilitates solution-focused connections among businesses, community organisations, education, and governmental agencies with a particular emphasis on post-disaster contexts, inequality, and citizenship education.
