- How do I get to Guide Dogs Victoria using public transport?
There are a few ways to reach Guide Dogs Victoria Kew Campus via public transport:
By Train:
The nearest station is Alphington Station, on the Hurstbridge line. Two shuttle buses will be stopping at Alphington Station throughout the day. Pick up location will be along Wingrove Street, opposite the station in front of the Alphington Farmers Market. There will be a Guide Dogs banner at the pick up point.
By Bus:
Routes 302 and 304 operate on the weekends and stop at Princess/Earl St. From there it is about a 15 minute walk to Guide Dogs Victoria.
For alternate routes and real-time schedules, use the Public Transport Victoria journey planner or download the Moovit app which offers voice-guided directions and customisable settings to help people with low vision or blindness navigate public transport with ease.
- Is there any support for guests with low vision or blindness?
Absolutely! This event is designed with accessibility and community in mind. There will be friendly staff and volunteers available to guide and assist guests with low vision or blindness, so you can easily navigate the event.
- Can I bring my pet?
No. We love all animals, but for this event, please keep your furry best friends at home. However, we welcome active Guide Dogs and puppies in training. Unfortunately, retired Guide Dogs can’t join us this time.
- Can I pat the Guide Dogs at the Community Fair?
It takes a lot of training and concentration for a person with low vision or blindness to work safely with a Guide Dog. We can’t wait to welcome you to our Community Fair, but before we do – let’s cover a couple of ground rules to ensure everyone, including Guide Dog Handlers, has a great time.
Look, but don’t touch: While it’s tempting to say hello, working Guide Dogs need to stay focused. Please don’t pat, call out to, distract or try to feed them.
Always ask before offering help: Please don’t grab onto a person or their Guide Dog’s harness. If you think someone may need assistance, simply ask first.
Give space: When you see a Guide Dog working, avoid stepping into their path or trying to engage with them. A little extra space helps them do their job safely.
Meet our Ambassador Dogs: Our friendly Ambassador Dogs will be there to say hello on the day.
Thank you for helping us create a welcoming and inclusive event.
- Is alcohol available at the event?
No. This is a dry event, so there won’t be any alcohol served. We’ve got plenty of delicious food and non-alcoholic drinks to keep you refreshed!
- What food will be available?
You are in for a treat! We’ve got a great variety of food options, including sausage sizzle, cake stall, vegan options, pizza, gelato, coffee, and more.
- Are there shaded areas to relax?
Yes! We’ve got you covered – literally. Our entire Campus will be open to explore, with plenty of quiet spaces to rest.
- Can I bring my picnic rug and an umbrella?
Absolutely! Feel free to bring picnic rugs and umbrellas to make yourself at home. We can’t wait to share our Campus with you.
- What do I need to bring with me?
Please ensure you have a copy of your ticket (or tickets if you’ve purchased on behalf of others) and your ID handy! We’ll handle the rest.
- Will there be photos and videos taken on the day?
Yes. By entering this event you agree to being filmed or photographed which may be used for Guide Dog Victoria marketing or promotional purposes. All rights to the images and videos are those of Guide Dogs Victoria.
