Experience the rich biodiversity of the RAMSAR-listed Hunter Estuary as we glide through the mangrove-fringed Ironbark Creek and its tributaries on a small group guided kayak tour.

Paddling along the tranquil waterways we will spot wetlands wildlife such as Egrets, Kingfishers and Osprey while learning about the history and ecology of this unique environment. We will continue the tour on foot through the rainforest and marshland. This is a unique opportunity to visit parts of the Hunter that is only accessible by water.

About Us

The Hunter Wetlands Centre Australia is a RAMSAR-listed site of international importance. With 8 distinct wetlands environments, it attracts more than 200 bird species including threatened species such as the Black Necked Stork and Magpie Geese. The tranquil waters and trails of our wetlands are a haven for people and wildlife in the heart of Newcastle.

Tours are available at 9.30am or 12.30pm.
Please arrive at the Visitors Centre 15mins prior to Tour start time.

Important Information

* This is a KAYAKING tour. Each kayak only holds one person. Prior paddling experience is not required, however you must have good general fitness, able to paddle for up to 2 hours and walk approximately 2km.

* Children over 10 are allowed to participate in their own kayak, provided they are accompanied and supervised on the tour by their guardian at all times. They must have the ability to paddle up to 2hrs.

* Please advise any allergies or dietary requirements when booking.

* Life jackets will be provided and must be worn at all times while on the water.
