Guided morning tour and fill your own bucket at bison dahlia paddock in Pialligo

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Go on a guided tour with experienced flower gardener Daniel Santelices (or Brian Tunks) and explore the bison dahlia patch in Pialligo. Learn the history of the dahlia (once a food source for the Aztecs) and hear from Brian Tunks (designer at bison and chief Gardener!) about the varieties and story behind our fascination with these blooms. We’ll then walk several hundred metres to the paddock and Daniel and Brian will show you how to cut the flowers using secateurs and help you make your own generous bunches in a bucket we’ll provide.

To participate in this event you will need to wear full length trousers/jeans… and enclosed shoes. The paddock is a rural setting and we need to dress appropriately… blockout, a hat and sunscreen are also suggested. We cut earlier in the day to avoid stressing both the flowers and ourselves, plus the light is beautiful. You also need to be able to walk several hundred metres down and up a gentle slope.

After you’ve cut your flowers and explored the patch (learning about the differences in colours and varieties) we’ll also share some growing tips before heading up to the Pialligo Bakesmith for a coffee/tea or a freshly baked Danish. You then may wish to wander through our bison stores which will be full of dahlias in our vessels and vases in colour blocks and arrangements.

This is a great gift to give to someone… or to share with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you at our inaugural dahlia festival in Pialligo. We will all meet at the ‘bison potting shed’ near the main gates before walking to the paddock. Our van will bring the buckets back up for you.

Best,

Brian and the team at bisonhome
