Guided Paddling Trip
Event description
Join educators from the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) and Sanibel Sea School for a guided paddling trip to Picnic Island! The excursion will include dip and seine netting for marine creatures, and discussions about their biology and ecology. Participants must be age 13 or older.
We will provide kayaks for those without their own — standup paddle boards are also welcome for those providing their own equipment!
We will meet at the Sanibel Sea School at 455 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL at 8:30 a.m., and plan to launch from the end of Dixie Beach Road by 9 a.m. If you have a City of Sanibel parking sticker and your own boat, you can meet us at the launching site.
We will paddle out to Picnic Island, seine and dip net in nearby seagrass flats, and — depending on weather and timing — also paddle around Fisherman Key. Participants can expect to be back to land around 11:30 a.m., and back to Sanibel Sea School by noon.
Bring water, sun protection, insect repellent, and wear clothing and shoes that can get wet.
