Walkshop with Maya Ward

Event description

Maya’s ‘walkshop’ will be accompanied by readings from her book The Comfort of Water: A River Pilgrimage, and will include practices of walking meditation and river contemplation. It will be a gently paced walk of no more than 3km, and we will be accompanied by spring wild flowers and abundant bird life. Please be prepared for Warburton’s variable weather with umbrella or rain jacket and comfortable walking shoes.

Warburton resident Maya Ward wrote the book The Comfort of Water: A River Pilgrimage, published by Transit Lounge. It is an account of her 21-day walking journey from the sea to the source of the Yarra River, following the length of a Wurundjeri Songline. This book has been on the curriculum in universities around Australia, and was shortlisted by the State Library for the 2012 Year of Reading Award. She now teaches creative writing and deep nature connection from her home on the banks of the river.

Please note: Numbers are capped on these free 'Warburton Birrarung Riverfest' activities. If you book a ticket and find that you won't be able to make it, please ensure you cancel your ticket so that someone else may come in your place.
