Guiding Light - Lantern Making Workshop

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Join us for a workshop on how to make your own Mirning star (diamond) lantern.

Lanterns have a rich history and cultural significance, spanning across centuries and continents.

These delicate and versatile decorations have been used for everything from lighting during festivals and celebrations to symbolising hope, happiness, good luck and coming home.

Lanterns are sparks of life that light the way forward towards the future and push aside the surrounding darkness. A symbol which is as personal as it is global.

Learn the art of lantern making from Hahndorf Winter Lantern Festival Makers and the Adelaide Sustainability Centre and use these new skills to make your own Mirning star lantern.

Participants are then encouraged to bring their finished lanterns to the Nature Festival Light for the Bight Event hosted by The Wilderness Society of SA on 14th October (an Event of stories by Mirning Elder Bunna focused on creatures from the Great Australian Bight and Nullarbor).

The workshop is family friendly and suitable for everyone including children aged 8 years and over, provided they are accompanied by an adult. All materials provided, no prior experience necessary.

This Workshop is brought to you by the Adelaide Sustainability Centre. The Adelaide Sustainability Centre is funded by Green Adelaide and supported by Conservation Council of SA.
