Come one, come all to August’s edition of Guitar Kingdom! It will be a contemporary and classical manifesto between guitarists Ken Wei, Sophie Marcheff and ever-present resident Rose González….

Ken Wei’s love for classical guitar began in China where he began studying guitar, before moving to Naarm to complete his tertiary studies in guitar. Ken is drawn to the styles of playing cemented by the great masters’ of 20th century classical guitar, counting Andrés Segovia, John Williams and Julian Bream as strong influences in his own playing. In 2020, Ken released his debut solo guitar album titled ‘El Dia Que Me Quieras’ (The Day That You Love Me). Granted, we already love you Ken Wei!

Sophie Marcheff is a classical/contemporary guitarist, originally hailing from Singleton (“Singo” in local vernacular). Sophie’s influences are eclectic, spanning Brazilian choro to works by  modern composers. A member of the acclaimed Melbourne Guitar Quartet, Sophie can also be seen around town playing in the local samba scene and popping up in her all-time favourite project, in duo form with Rose González.
