Amy the Amegilla - meet our native bees

Dr Kit aka Bee Babette is a local native bee scientist. She will be doing a storytelling session of her illustrated book ‘Amy the Amegilla’, where you will have the opportunity to learn from a real-life scientist all about our native bees. We will also be doing colouring in activities and learn about bee body-parts, and then go for a walk around the centre to go native bee spotting and see how many we can find!

What to bring:

• Water bottle/snack

• Wear closed-in shoes

• Wear comfortable clothing

• Raincoat/ umbrella if needed

Suitable Age Groups: Children 5-8 years old accompanied by adults

Price: $15 kids, $10 adults (adults to accompany children)

– Concession tickets available (for concession card holders and other eligible categories)

– Parents/accompanying adults must buy adult tickets. Please note that registrations are essential for everyone attending.

About the Presenter:

Dr Kit Prendergast, aka the Bee Babette, is a celebrated native bee researcher and science educator. Not only has she contributed greatly to conserving our native bees, with over 80 publications, she is also renowned for her science communication, dressing up as a colourful native bee and visiting schools and communities across Australia, sharing her love and passion for native bees. Under an Inspiring WA award, she has written and illustrated children’s books on native bees. Dr Kit is a WA Young Tall Poppy winner this year, and a finalist in the Premier’s Young Scientist awards.
